1. Gruul’s Lair

Gruul’s Lair is located north of Ruuan Weald in the Blade’s Edge Mountains of Outland. Here, Gruul the Dragonkiller, the merciless gronn overlord, rules over the ogres of Blade’s Edge. This raid contains two bosses, Gruul the Dragonkiller and High King Maulgar, and requires no attunement. The player must be at least level 65 and in a raid to enter.

Bosses:

*High King Maulgar  Image of High King Maulgar

High King Maulgar is the ogre lord of the ogres at the Blade’s Edge Mountains in Outland, ruling from within Gruul’s Lair. His council consists of Kiggler the Crazed, Blindeye the Seer, Olm the Summoner, and Krosh Firehand.

*Gruul the Dragonkiller  Image of Gruul the Dragonkiller

Gruul the Dragonkiller is the gronn overlord of the ogres of Outland, ruling with an iron fist. He earned his “nom de guerre” (and the emnity of Sabellian) after slaughtering many members of the black dragonflightwho had come to Outland in order to aid the Horde of Draenor. Gruul is the final boss of Gruul’s Lair in the Blade’s Edge Mountains. He drops Tier 4 Leggings tokens. He is the father of seven Gronn: Goc, Gorgrom the Dragon-Eater, Grulloc, Maggoc, Slaag, Skulloc Soulgrinder, and Durn the Hungerer. He has about 3,375,000 hit points (Patch 2.4.3), although with Patch 3.0.2 this has been reduced by 30%.

2. Magtheridon’s Lair  Magtheridon's Lair loading screen.jpg

Magtheridon’s Lair is the raid wing of the Hellfire Citadel dungeon in Outland where you fight the brutish pit lord Magtheridon himself. You can find the entrance to Magtheridon’s Lair on the very bottom of the western side of the Citadel (opposite side from the other 3 entrances). It is a quick raid encounter (like Onyxia’s Lair, which contains four “guard mobs” before the boss encounter, Onyxia). Players can get a preview of Magtheridon by doing the Blood Furnace instance. He is being held captive underneath the room where you fight Keli’dan the Breaker.

Boss:

*Magtheridon  Image of Magtheridon

Magtheridon, the former Lord of Outland, is a pit lord who conquered the ruins of the orcish homeworld following its destruction. His reign was ended by the arrival of Illidan Stormrage, who took Magtheridon’s throne at the Black Temple for himself. Deciding that Magtheridon would have a further part to play, Illidan had Magtheridon’s body dragged to the Hellfire Citadel where he imprisoned the pit lord, leaving him at the mercy of the fel orcs.A group of adventurers entered the depths of Hellfire Citadel, released the former Lord of Outland from his bonds, and finally destroyed him, taking his head as proof of their prowess. Magtheridon was voiced by Earl Boen, a narrator for WoW’s cutscenes, in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade.

3. Serpentshrine Cavern

Serpentshrine Cavern is the raid wing of Coilfang Reservoir, where Lady Vashj has made her lair. It is a 25-man raid instance with six bosses, culminating with Lady Vashj herself. There is no longer an attunementrequired to enter this instance. For most raids, Serpentshrine Cavern will come only after the raid has been farming Karazhan as well as Gruul’s Lair.

Bosses:

*Hydross the Unstable  Image of Hydross the Unstable

Hydross the Unstable is the first boss of Serpentshrine Cavern in Coilfang Reservoir. He seems to be forced to guard and is being held prisoner by Lady Vashj. He is kept in check by the two beams in his prison. If he leaves them, he becomes poisoned, causing him great pain. Although being the first boss raids meet when entering the instance, The Lurker Below is an easier kill, and it is possible to sneak past Hydross. Therefore, new raids usually try Hydross second. It’s not know if he is a Neptulon’s Water elemental (capture in Azeroth) or Aborius.

*The Lurker Below  Image of The Lurker Below

The Lurker Below is the second boss of the Serpentshrine Cavern in the Coilfang Reservoir. The creature is of an unknown type (the name of its race has not been specified in-game quests) — its file name is listed as “krakken”. It is widely considered to be the easiest fight in SSC, earning it the nickname “The Loot Below” or “The Lolcats Below”. The name itself may be derived from the Dungeons & Dragons monsters, Lurker Below or the Lurker Above, for which the latter is also known for dwelling in dark caverns. In order to start the fight, raid members must fish in the “Strange Pool” (needs +300 fishing skill). Each cast has a chance to make the Lurker come to the surface. The success rate of this ranges from 1-2 attempts up to fishing for 8 minutes straight. Some people claim that hitting the center of the pool has a higher chance to summon the Lurker, but this is not confirmed.

*Leotheras the Blind  Image of Leotheras the Blind

Leotheras the Blind is the third Boss of Serpentshrine Cavern in Coilfang Reservoir. He is a blood elf demon hunter who is apparently possessed by a demon himself. Kael’thas Sunstrider originally sent Illidan Stormrage 5 blood elves to train as Demon hunters. Three of them died in training, Varedis succeeded and now trains more demon hunters at the Black Temple, and the fifth one, Leotheras, went insane and was exiled to Zangarmarsh, where he found his way into the lair of Lady Vashj.

*Fathom-Lord Karathress  Image of Fathom-Lord Karathress

Fathom-Lord Karathress can be found in Serpentshrine Cavern and is usually killed as the fourth boss. The fight involves several adds (similar to High King Maulgar), and is a battle for survival which is made much easier by high DPS. After killing Karathress,  Seer Olum becomes accessible.During the whole fight, the spitfire totem is a major source of raid damage. While adds are still up, it’s absolutely necessary to bring it down ASAP when it spawns. All ranged damage dealers should have a macro to quickly target it i.e. /target Spitfire Totem. When only Karathress remains, it’s possible to ignore the totem and simply heal through the damage.

*Morogrim Tidewalker  Image of Morogrim Tidewalker

Morogrim Tidewalker is the fifth boss of Serpentshrine Cavern in Coilfang Reservoir. The raid should stay well away from the waterfalls, so that nobody takes collateral damage from watery graves. A good spot is on top of the stairs to the next room. It’s possible to sneak past the boss and pull him from there. Morogrim should be tanked upstairs on the platform. Two healers should be designated to take care of the watery grave victims and set up downstairs, the paladin tank, a “heal aggro” warlock and a healer for the paladin can set up at the bottom of the stairs too. The raid sets up at the edge of the platform on top of the stairs, so that the ranged damage dealers can switch from Morogrim to the murlocs just by rotating in place.

*Lady Vashj  Image of Lady Vashj

Lady Vashj <Coilfang Matron> is the final boss of Serpentshrine Cavern in Coilfang Reservoir. Phase 2 is a Battle for survival which tests the raids capability to function as a team, while phase 3 is a rather straightforward DPS race. Lady Vashj (pronounced /vɒʒ/ — somewhere between Vash and Vosh) was born in the city of Vashj’ir, where her mother, Lestharia Vashj, was the high leader and matron. She somehow left her homeland, and came to the city of Zin-Azshari, capital of the night elves, sometime before the War of the Ancients. Once chief among Queen Azshara’s handmaidens, Vashj became one of the serpentine naga when Azshara and her followers were sent to the bottom of the sea during the Great Sundering.

4. The Eye(Tempest Keep)

The Eye is the inner palace of Tempest Keep in Netherstorm and stronghold of the “Sun King”, Kael’thas Sunstrider. In-game, it is known simply as “Tempest Keep”. The tokens for tier 5 shoulder and chest pieces drop in the Eye. There is no longer any attunement required to enter this instance.

Bosses:

*Al’ar  Image of Al'ar

Al’ar is the first seen boss of the Eye in Tempest Keep. This boss is more often than not skipped at first and attempted after Void Reaver because of Void Reaver’s lesser difficulty.Al’ar is Kael’thas Sunstrider’s precious pet phoenix that he cares for deeply. His children also serve Kael’thas. As with all phoenixes, he is reborn from his own ashes, so adventurers wishing to take him down may have to do so more than once…

*Void Reaver  Image of Void Reaver

Void Reaver is the second boss in the Eye of Tempest Keep. It is a Fel Reaver guardian. Since it is a rather simple fight (probably easier than High King Maulgar or Prince Malchezaar), it has earned the nickname “Loot Reaver.” The only pre-condition is that the raid’s total DPS be high enough to kill it prior to its enrage (after 10 minutes).Void Reaver is a fel reaver built by the Burning Legion and taken by Kael’thas Sunstrider as a guardian for his palace. He now resides in The Eye, awaiting the daring adventurers who are brave (or foolish) enough to enter the realm of the blood elves.

*High Astromancer Solarian  Image of High Astromancer Solarian

High Astromancer Solarian is the third boss of the Eye in Tempest Keep. She is a level ?? (boss) mage, but is attired in Voidheart Raiment, the Tier 4 armor for warlocks, (most likely due to the fact that she transforms into a giant Voidwalker towards the end of her fight.) Since most of the damage dealt to the raid is arcane, some arcane resistance will help. It’s a good idea if everybody brings their Violet Badge. Players should not nerf themselves to obtain high amounts of resistance though. Melee damage dealers are very effective because while Solarian is continuously spamming some spells, she can’t dodge. During the adds phase, the tanks have to control 15 mobs, thus some solid AoE tanking is required. A good paladin tank can be quite valuable here

*Kael’thas Sunstrider  Image of Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider

Kael’thas Sunstrider <Lord of the Blood Elves> is the fourth and final boss encounter of the Eye in Tempest Keep. It’s a very interesting fight with five phases. Phases 2 and 3 are DPS races, while 4 and 5 are one big Battle for survival. Overall, many veteran raiders consider this to be one of the most challenging and most enjoyable boss encounters in the whole of The Burning Crusade.Kael’thas “Kael” Sunstrider was a senior member of the Kirin Tor and the Prince of Quel’Thalas, the last of the Sunstrider dynasty. After the fall of Quel’Thalas, Kael’thas led what remained of his people in the service of the Alliance. Striving to placate his people’s addiction to magic, he later covertly allied with Illidan Stormrage and the Burning Legion. He was branded a traitor after his allegiance with the Legion was revealed. Kael’thas plotted to summon Kil’jaeden the Deceiver through the Sunwell, but his plans were foiled by the Shattered Sun Offensive. He was defeated by their forces in Magisters’ Terrace.

5. Battle for Mount Hyjal  Caverns of Time loading screen.jpg

Battle for Mount Hyjal is the 25 man raid instance in the Caverns of Time. Its difficulty is slightly below that of Black Temple, and the first two Tier 6 set tokens can be won here. Defeating enemies in Hyjal Summit yields reputation with The Scale of the Sands.

Bosses:

*Rage Winterchill  Image of Rage Winterchill

Rage Winterchill is the first boss of the Caverns of Time raid, Battle of Mount Hyjal. The fight is a DPS race.During the time of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, five years after the death of Rage Winterchill dark agents infiltrated the timeways and tried to alter the course of the history. They tried to sabotage the Battle of Mount Hyjal and the bronze dragonflight sent adventurers to prevent it, and also they could kill Rage Winterchill. At the same moment, Akama was trying to defeat Illidan but he needed the phylactery of Rage Winterchill that was destroyed during the Battle of Mount Hyjal, fortunately some adventurers went to prevent the alteration of the time but also to recover the phylactery. The adventurers fought against Rage Winterchill, aided by the troops of the Third War and Jaina Proudmoore, but this time Winterchill died during his first battle instead of fighting various times or alongside Azgalor. The phylactery of Rage Winterchill was recovered and used so that Akama could regain control of his soul that was taken by Illidan.

*Anetheron  Image of Anetheron

Anetheron is the second boss in the Battle for Mount Hyjal. The fight is a Battle for survival.A cunning and powerful dreadlord, Anetheron was second only to Tichondrius himself(he later took the place of Tichondrius for a brief period) in the ranks of the nathrezim.

*Kaz’rogal  Image of Kaz'rogal

The third boss in the Battle for Mount Hyjal, Kaz’rogal is a rather tough DPS race.Kaz’rogal didn’t appear in any source during the Third War. But five years after the battle, when dark agents tried to alter the history of the Battle of Mount Hyjal, adventurers went back to the past to help during the battle.Kaz’rogal was a lieutenant of Archimonde and attacked the orc base, but was killed by Thrall, troops of the Third War and adventuers from the future.

*Azgalor  Image of Azgalor

Azgalor is the fourth boss in the Battle for Mount Hyjal raid instance, preceded by the most difficult set of trash waves. The fight is a battle for survival. Even though a raid member dies every 45 seconds, the emphasis is on avoiding the AoE fire damage, not on nuking the boss as quickly as possible.Azgalor was once the lieutenant to the mighty demon-king Mannoroth. Following Mannoroth’s death at the hands of the orc Grom Hellscream, Azgalor took it upon himself to direct the Burning Legion’s ground forces at the Battle of Mount Hyjal. Though he isn’t as clever as his former master, he has an aptitude for chaos and violence that is legendary even among demonkind.

*Archimonde  Image of Archimonde

Archimonde is the final boss in the Battle for Mount Hyjal. The fight is a major battle for survival; even a single player’s death can easily result in a wipe.Archimonde (pronounced Ark-i-mond) was the left hand of the fallen titan Sargeras. Archimonde was one of the greatest and darkest of the eredar. His ruthless and cunning personality quickly earned him station and power within the eredar ranks, until finally he was one of the first among them. He is described as one of the lieutenants and generals of Sargeras.

6. Black Temple

The Black Temple is the fortress-citadel of Illidan Stormrage, Lord of Outland. It was once known as the Temple of Karabor, and has changed hands many times over the generations. It is a level 70 raid instance in Outland, containing tier 6 drops and the Twin Blades of Azzinoth. The entrance to the Black Temple does not appear to be its main gates, but rather an instance portal set in a breach in the southern battlement, below the ruins of Karabor. It no longer has a required attunement.

Bosses:

*High Warlord Naj’entus  Image of High Warlord Naj'entus

High Warlord Naj’entus is the first boss encountered in the Black Temple. He has a very bizarre appearance, and is assumed to be a naga anomaly because of that. The fight is a gear check, requiring high stamina on the whole raid and well-equipped healers. All raid members take 8,500 frost damage every 60 seconds, making 8,501 HP buffed the absolute minimum requirement, but in practice 10,000 HP buffed are needed, to give the healers a little slack.

*Supremus  Image of Supremus

Supremus is the second boss in Black Temple. The fight is a battle for survival. After dropping this boss, the next four bosses (Shade of Akama, Teron Gorefiend, Reliquary of Souls and Gurtogg Bloodboil) can be killed in any order.

*Shade of Akama  Image of Shade of Akama

The Shade of Akama is the dark portion of Akama’s soul that binds Akama to Illidan’s service. This is probably the easiest boss in the whole of Black Temple and normally killed third. Killing the Shade of Akama turns all broken patrols in the instance friendly and is a prerequisite for opening the door to Mother Shahraz.

*Teron Gorefiend  Image of Teron Gorefiend

Teron Gorefiend is a boss in the Black Temple. The fight is basically a DPS race, with a twist. Killing Gorefiend is a prerequisite for opening the door leading to Mother Shahraz. He’s usually killed fourth when clearing BT.In life, Teron Gorefiend was one of Gul’dan’s acolytes. In death, he became the first of the necromantic terrors that became known as death knights — the warriors promised by Gul’dan to appease Orgrim Doomhammer and combat the human mages’ powerful magic.

*Gurtogg Bloodboil  Image of Gurtogg Bloodboil

Gurtogg Bloodboil is a (presumedly) fel-sworn orc boss in Black Temple. The fight is a battle for survival combined with a tough healer gear check. Depending on the relative gear levels between healers and damage dealers, Bloodboil is usually killed fifth or sixth, and is a prerequisite for gaining access to Mother Shahraz.

*Reliquiry of Souls  Image of Reliquary of Souls

Reliquary of Souls (aka Reliquary of the Lost) is a boss in the Black Temple. This boss is a figure with three faces, representing the Essences of Anger, Desire, and Suffering respectively. The three have to be defeated one after the other. They all are DPS races, each with a different twist

*Mother Shahraz  Image of Mother Shahraz

Mother Shahraz is a shivarra boss located in Black Temple in Shadowmoon Valley. Besides requiring high amounts of Shadow Resistance, the fight is rather basic tank and spank. All previous bosses (Shade of Akama, Teron Gorefiend, Reliquary of Souls, and Gurtogg Bloodboil) need to be killed before the door to Mother Shahraz opens. She must be killed before the raid can gain access to the Illidari Council. Given her location, quotes and abilities, it can be surmised that she is the leader of the concubines in Black Temple and probably even a concubine herself, but as for who she is a concubine for…maybe that’s best not answered.

*Illidari Council  Image of Illidari Council

The Illidari Council is a group of four blood elf bosses in the Black Temple. The fight is comparable toHigh King Maulgar since it sports a difficult pull and a rather chaotic battle for survival, which requires high situational awareness and fast reflexes from all raid members. Note as of patch 4.0.1, several players are experiencing bugs with this fight; the bosses are healing themselves for large amounts (outside of Circle of Healing) or being unable to die once they reach 1HP.

*Illidan Stormrage  Image of Illidan Stormrage

Illidan Stormrage is the final boss of the Black Temple. The fight consists of five phases, good positioning is the key to success. Since the HP reduction in Patch 3.0.2, it is possible to kill Illidan without him ever switching to demon form (Phase 4).Illidan Stormrage was the self-proclaimed Lord of Outland, ruling from the Black Temple. He was born anight elf and, as stated by Maiev Shadowsong, became “neither night elf nor demon, but something more”. He was the twin brother of Malfurion Stormrage and was in love with Tyrande Whisperwind. Once an unusually gifted sorcerer, the extent of his powers became difficult to classify due to his powers increasing in large bursts as a Demon Hunter and his having absorbed the powers of the dangerous arcane object known as the Skull of Gul’dan.

7.Sunwell Plateau

The Sunwell Plateau is a raid instance located on the Isle of Quel’Danas north of Silvermoon City. Blizzard planned for it to become the hardest raid instance in the game until the release of Wrath of the Lich King. The Sunwell Plateau is tuned for Tier 6-geared players and the gear that drops from the first three bosses are additional Tier 6 items (boots, belt and bracers), and non-set epics as well. The instance contains both outdoor areas and building interiors, where players will find captured naaru, which are the primary power source of the town, and inside the final building the Sunwell itself. The architecture of the Sunwell Plateau is comparable to that of Silvermoon City.

Bosses:

*Kalecgos  Image of Kalecgos

Kalecgos is the first boss in the Sunwell Plateau raid. This highly technical fight takes place in two different realms at the same time. In the normal realm the players face Kalecgos the dragon, while in the spectral realm Sathrovarr the Corruptor and Kalec, Kalecgos’ half-elf form, fight for control over the dragon. The battle is won when Sathrovarr and the dragon are both subdued, and it is lost when Sathrovarr kills Kalec. Roughly every 30 seconds, an opportunity presents itself for players to change realm. A solid rotation has to be worked out on who switches when to the spectral realm. Even after the HP reduction of patch 3.0.2, Kalecgos is not a trivial fight.

*Sathrovarr the Corruptor  Image of Sathrovarr the Corruptor

Sathrovarr the Corruptor is a dreadlord and part of the first boss encounter of the Sunwell Plateau raid. He has possessed the blue dragon Kalecgos, who fights players at Apex Point, above the Parhelion Plaza. While doing battle with Kalecgos, players will be transported to the Inner Veil, a shadowy realm whereKalec battles Sathrovarr in his half-elf form in an attempt to stave off his own corruption.

*Brutallus  Image of Brutallus

Brutallus is a pit lord and the second boss of the Sunwell Plateau raid. He is described by Jeff Kaplan as a “giant pit lord who has lost his wings.” He also has blades for hands like Kargath Bladefist. Brutallus appears to have been in many fights because there are multiple scars on his body, as well has seemingly ripped off wings. He is a hard, melee oriented boss with high gear requirements. If players run as far north as they can in the Dead Scar outside on the Isle of Quel’Danas, they can see a preview of the encounter inside the instance, with blue dragon Madrigosa flying in the air above Brutallus and taunting him. When players in the Sunwell Plateau approach the Den of Iniquity, a room overlooking the Dead Scar, Brutallus fights and kills Madrigosa.

*Felmyst  Image of Felmyst

Felmyst is a fel dragon and the third boss of the Sunwell Plateau raid. She is raised from the corpse of theblue dragon Madrigosa when the blood of the slain pit lord Brutallus seeps into the ground and flows beneath her body. Felmyst is the final boss encounter before reaching Agamath, the First Gate. Felmyst drops the last of the 8 tier 6 tokens.

*Eredar Twins  Image of Eredar Twins

The Eredar Twins,  Lady Sacrolash and  Grand Warlock Alythess, are a boss pair making up the fourth boss encounter in the Sunwell Plateau raid. They are behind Agamath, the First Gate and ahead of Rohendor, the Second Gate. Agamath, the First Gate of Sunwell Plateau was opened to the US and EU on 4/8/2008 after standard Tuesday/Wednesday maintenance. The opening of this gate made the Eredar Twins available to the community as a killable end game boss. Phase 1 of the fight involves fighting both Twins at once. When you kill one of the Twins, she will merge with her sister, who will gain some of her abilities, and phase 2 will begin. Killing Alythess before Sacrolash is the easier order. As of June 19 2008, Bornakk confirmed that killing order would no longer matter, but before that date, killing Alythess second and Sacrolash first would give more loot. As of the arrival of patch 2.4.3, the Twins now always drops the version with the most loot.

*M’uru   Image of M'uru

M’uru is missing from his location beneath the Blood Knight headquarters in Silvermoon’s Farstriders’ Square, having been captured by Kael’thas and brought to the Sunwell Plateau. Magister Astalor Bloodsworn curses Kael’thas and his felbloods for their treachery, commenting that Lady Liadrin is looking for another source to power the Blood Knights’ magic. M’uru is located behind Rohendor, the Second Gate and ahead of Archonisus, the Final Gate, placing it as the fifth boss encounter of the instance. M’uru was made accessible at the same time across all servers five weeks (29 April, 2008) after the opening of Rohendor, the Second Gate. The removed quest Rohendor, the Second Gate warns that M’uru is now a “twisted reflection of its former self”.

*Entropius  Image of Entropius

Entropius is a void god into which the naaru M’uru transforms during the fifth boss encounter of the Sunwell Plateau. Some parts of M’uru’s form are still visible. This appears to be the “void” that the naaru transform into upon death. Although the other darkened naaru (K’ure and D’ore) have not become void beings, this might be the result of M’uru being drained by the Blood Knights.

*Kil’jaeden

Image of Kil'jaeden the Deceiver

Kil’jaeden <The Deceiver> is the last boss in the Sunwell Plateau raid instance, and the final boss of The Burning Crusade expansion. Anveena, Kalecgos, and the blue dragonflight play a role in this encounter. Since the Sunwell Plateau instance was revealed, Kil’jaeden was the most powerful boss in the game pre-WotLK. On May 20th, 2008, the 3rd gate of the Sunwell Plateau was brought down on US Servers unlocking the encounter.

8. Naxxramas

Naxxramas was originally a 40-man raid instance floating above the Eastern Plaguelands. It was a massive necropolis and had the unquestionable honor of serving as the seat of one of the Lich King’s most powerful officers, the dreaded lich Kel’Thuzad. The instance was regarded as the most difficult before the release of Burning Crusade, and should not be attempted at level 60 without at least 40 well-equipped (preferably Tier 2 or Tier 2.5 armor) players. Naxxramas was also the home of many of the most powerful items of the pre-BC era, and 60+ quests with rewards such as [Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian] and all Tier 3 items available in the game. With the release of The Burning Crusade, finishing this instance still required 25-30 well-equipped level 70 players. The dungeon was added in patch 1.11, making it the last non-expansion instance added to the core game as well as the last 40 man instance.

Bosses:

*Patchwerk   Image of Patchwerk

Patchwerk is a titanic abomination found in Naxxramas (original) and is known as Kel’thuzad’s “Avatar of War”.Patchwerk is not an aggro-sensitive fight, and under most circumstances, with normal threat reduction talents and effects, it is nearly impossible to pull aggro from the MT. It is however possible in some cases as shown in this video, and is probably just due to the extremely high generation of Rage on tanks due to the massive amount of damage taken. Regardless of the reason, the difficulty of pulling aggro makes it possible for the raid to all-out DPS. This is important, as Patchwerk has about 3,850,000 HP and a 7 minute enrage time limit (your raid needs ~9500 dps minimum to kill him in time).

*Grobbulus  Image of Grobbulus

“Grobbulus, the first of what was to be an army of flesh giants. It carried the plague slime of Naxxramas within its body, injecting the living ooze into the bodies of its foe. The recipient of this foul injection would usually flee to his allies, bringing them down with him.”

*Gluth

Image of Gluth

“Gluth, the foul plague-dog of Naxxramas, was said to have an appetite so voracious that even the living were not enough to satisfy his hunger. Feugen was said to feed him an army of zombies daily, recycling the remains of undead too weak to use in combat.”

*Thaddius

Image of Thaddius

Thaddius is a boss in Naxxramas. The theme of this boss is similar to that of Frankenstein’s Monster, creating something akin to an Abomination in that it is sewn together of human parts, but also part machinery.Your raid cleared out the last group of monsters, and the only thing left are the two gates at the very end of the room. While the rest of your group drinks, heals up, and resurrects any players who fell during the last skirmish, you carefully approach the sealed doors. Suddenly the mighty gates fly open. A vast laboratory filled with all kinds of strange machinery lies before you, electric discharges and lightning painting the walls with jagged shadows. In the center of the room, you behold a gigantic creature unlike anything you (or any other player) has ever seen before.

*Noth the Plaguebringer

Image of Noth the Plaguebringer

Once a notable Wizard and alchemist of Dalaran, Noth heard the Lich King’s call as Arthas and Kel’Thuzad did. He was quick to turn his back on the Light and joined the Scourge, where he believed that real power lay. During the Third War, Noth saw that many innocent lives were needed to feed the growing might of the Scourge and he came to a point where he started opposing himself. Kel’Thuzad resolved the matter by freezing his heart in his chest with his frost magic. Noth the Plaguebringer, now more undead than Human is an extremely powerful Necromancer with a various array of deadly spells and curses.

*Heigan the Unclean

Image of Heigan the Unclean

Heigan the Unclean is the second boss of the Plague Quarter in Naxxramas. This is the famous dance boss that is well-renowned all over the game. If you master the dance then you master the fight. Some may view this as an easy feat, while many players struggle to master the concept.”Observe, Heigan the Unclean. The mastermind behind the plague cauldrons that turned the wilderness of Azeroth into the Plaguelands. It is said that Heigan has rigged the very walls and floors of Naxxramas itself with a vast array of traps, which he can trigger at will.”

*Loatheb

Image of Loatheb

Loatheb is a Fungal monster boss in Naxxramas.”Loatheb. The hideous result of fusing the living plague of the Plaguelands with the bog beasts of Azeroth, Loatheb is said to control the power of healing itself.”

*Anub’Rekhan

Image of Maexxna“Maexxna — born deep within the mountains of Northrend many ages ago, she was captured within the dread citadel Naxxramas, where she gives birth to her brood, feeding them the corpses of all who dare venture too deeply into Naxxramas.”

*Instructor Razuvious

Image of Instructor Razuvious

Instructor Razuvious is the first boss in the Death Knight wing in Naxxramas. He comes with four additional mobs when pulled. NOTE: He should almost never be tanked by a player due to Unbalancing Strike. But at level 70 he can be tanked by a well-geared t5-t6 tank. He will get ~ 3000 dps then. The only time you should tank him is as a last resort when all the understudies are dead and he has very little health left. Some tips on tanking him are using Evasion/Shield Wall and Shield Block/Limited Invulnerability Potion and taunt, then mocking blow.

*Gothik the Harvester

Image of Gothik the Harvester

Gothik is a boss within the raid dungeon of Naxxramas. He will appear in the events of Wrath of the Lich King, however, He will appear in the events of Wrath of the Lich King in the starting area for the Death Knight class as a questgiver. “Gothik, the Harvester. A master of necromancy and conjuration, Gothik is said to be able to beckon forth legions of the undead at a moment’s notice. It is with his guidance that even the weakest of Death Knights can raise the dead.”

*Four Horsemen  Image of The Four Horsemen

The Four Horsemen are four powerful death knights in the service of Kel’Thuzad in his dread citadel ofNaxxramas. They originally were Highlord Alexandros Mograine <The Ashbringer>, Thane Korth’azz, Lady Blaumeux, and Sir Zeliek. Generally regarded as one of the most difficult encounters of Pre-Burning Crusade World of Warcraft, the coordination, timing, and relatively unforgiving nature made them one of the hardest bosses in the instance, along with Gothik the Harvester and Kel’Thuzad. Contrary to the other encounters in Naxxramas where more DPS and brute force would certainly help the raid, this encounter focused on taking your time to defeat, moving orderly. It stands to this day as the most amount of time a single encounter laid undefeated while also not requiring any retuning or bug fixing, at approximately 7 weeks, compared to 3–5 days for Sunwell Plateau bosses (time determined from Death and Taxes, who achieved the first world kill of the Horsemen seven weeks after encountering them). The raid setup of the encounter required an excessive number of tanks, meaning that even once guilds had figured out what to do it took a lot of time to prepare the requisite number of tanks for the encounter. In World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, with the moving of Naxxramas from the Eastern Plaguelands to Northrend, this original version of the encounter will be removed from the game and will no longer be accessible. Additionally, in the current version of the encounter, Highlord Mograine, apparently deceased, is replaced by Baron Rivendare.

*Sapphiron  Image of Sapphiron

Sapphiron is a gigantic undead dragon who guards the entrance to Kel’Thuzad’s inner sanctum inNaxxramas (original). Previously a member of the Blue Flight, Sapphiron is the final defense to Kel’Thuzad’s room. He holds a rich backstory within the Warcraft series and provides an epic battle that was previous unseen to WoW. Those who make it past all of the other thirteen bosses will face something far past what they expect.

*Kel’Thuzad

Image of Kel'Thuzad

Kel’Thuzad, once a sorcerer of the Kirin Tor of Dalaran, is the chief lieutenant of the powerful Lich King. He ruled over the Eastern Plaguelands from his citadel of Naxxramas. He was voiced by Michael McConnohie. He was the final boss of the original version of Naxxramas and considered by many to be the hardest in the instance due to the stringent execution and DPS requirements.Formerly a sorcerer of Dalaran, Kel’Thuzad was one of the principal agents of the Lich King, responsible for the spreading of the Plague of undeath across Lordaeron. After being slain by Arthas during the events of the Third War, he was reborn as a lich. He then aided Arthas in summoning Archimonde, a powerful lord of the Burning Legion. However, Kel’Thuzad’s true loyalty was to the Lich King, and not the Burning Legion. After the Legion’s defeat, Kel’Thuzad supported Arthas in wresting power from the Dreadlords. When Arthas left for Northrend during the events of The Frozen Throne, he left Kel’Thuzad as his agent to command the Scourge in Lordaeron.

The drake mobs are known as “Disciple of…” respectively.

*Emalon the Storm Watcher

Image of Emalon the Storm Watcher

Emalon the Storm Watcher is a raid boss in the Vault of Archavon. He can be found in the eastern wing. Although this boss was nerfed with a hotfix it still general requires (skilled players and/or) everyone in your raid to have over 2k dps. Emalon carries pieces of Tier 8 loot and PvP gear, similar to the Tier 7 loot dropped by Archavon.Like Archavon, Emalon is only available to the faction that controls Wintergrasp Fortress. Also like Archavon, Emalon becomes un-attackable ten minutes before each fight for Wintergrasp starts. He does not become un-attackable if he is already engaged in combat.

*Koralon the Flame Watcher  Image of Koralon the Flame Watcher

He became available when Season 7 started, on September 1.Like Archavon and Emalon, Koralon is only available to the faction that controls Wintergrasp Fortress. 11. Eye of Eternity  Eye of Eternity loading screen.jpg

The Eye of Eternity (also known as EoE) is the final instance of theNexus in which the final (and only) boss is the blue Dragon Aspect, Malygos. The fight against Malygos is comparable to the fight against Onyxia in that he is a solo raid boss housed within his own instance. To begin the fight you will need to use the Key to the Focusing Iris or Heroic Key to the Focusing Iris, which drops from Sapphiron in Naxxramas(on 10 and 25-player modes, respectively) once per kill. The Heroic Key can start the fight in both the 10-man and 25-man versions.

Boss:

Malygos  Image of Malygos

Malygos is the boss of the Eye of Eternity, the Onyxia-style raid instance in the Nexus. When players fight him, they will be assisted by Alexstrasza. With the assistance of the red dragonflight, players will be able to slay the Spell-Weaver, making him the first of the Dragon Aspects confirmed to die.

12.Ulduar

Ulduar loading screen.jpg

Ulduar is a raid dungeon in the titan complex of Ulduar which is located in the Storm Peaks. It serves as the prison of the Old God Yogg-Saron[1] as well as the current residence of most of the titanic watchers who have fallen under its influence. Ulduar was implemented in patch 3.1.0, intended to be one grade in difficulty above Naxxramas.

Bosses:

*Flame Leviathan  Image of Flame Leviathan

Flame Leviathan is the first boss encounter in Ulduar, found in the Formation Grounds. Most of the players in this encounter do not use their regular class abilities, but instead use vehicles (similar to drakes in Malygos’ third phase). The rest of Ulduar is not accessible until this boss is destroyed.

*Ignis the Furnace Master

Image of Ignis the Furnace Master

Ignis the Furnace Master is an optional boss encounter in Ulduar and can be found in the Colossal Forge. On orders from prime designate Loken, Ignis created both Kologarn and Razorscale.

*Razorscale

Image of Razorscale

Razorscale is an optional boss encounter in Ulduar. Formerly Veranus, Thorim’s mount, Ignis fused metal plates to her scales after capture. She is now a plated proto-drake that flies over Razorscale’s Aerie, across from the Colossal Forge.

*XT-002 Deconstructor  Image of XT-002 Deconstructor

XT-002 Deconstructor is the fourth raid boss in Ulduar raid. He directly blocks the entrance into the lower level of Ulduar in the Scrapyard. The fight is a rather straightforward gear check. A companion version of this boss, Lil’ XT, is available from the Blizzard Pet Store.

*The Assembly of Iron  Image of The Assembly of Iron

The Assembly of Iron, known as the Iron Council during the PTR, is the fifth boss encounter in Ulduar found in The Assembly of Iron. The encounter consists of Steelbreaker, Runemaster Molgeim, andStormcaller Brundir. Killing any one of the three will give a soft enrage of +25% damage to the other two and grant them additional abilities (similar to Fathom-Lord Karathress). Killing the second of the trio will grant the last with a final stage apart from their usual abilities which must be dealt with in different tactics. The hard mode of this fight requires players to kill Steelbreaker last.

*Kologarn  Image of Kologarn

Kologarn is the sixth boss encounter in Ulduar released in patch 3.1.0. He guards the Shattered Walkway into central Ulduar where not only is he protecting the bridge, he is the bridge. Players fight not only him but two detachable arms that appear to be separate mobs that can be broken off of him.

*Auriaya  Image of Auriaya

Auriaya is a boss encounter in Ulduar after defeating Kologarn. She roams around the Observation Ring, the area beyond the Shattered Walkway. She is an optional boss, and can be snuck past to reach additional areas. She has an enrage timer of 10 minutes on both difficulties.

*Mimiron  Image of Mimiron

Mimiron (called Mimir by his friends) is one of the Titanic Watchers. He once resided at the Temple of Invention, but is absent during the time of Loken’s rebellion. It is said that his mechanical servants appear to have turned against each other and that several attendants have been piled together in an unorganized manner. The remaining mechagnome guardians were corrupted by an unknown source.

*Freya

Image of Freya

Freya is one of the boss encounters in Ulduar, similar to Sartharion when it comes to her hard mode. She is in the center of the valley in Ulduar, surrounded by three ancients which all have unique abilities that will make the fight harder if players choose not to kill them prior to fighting Freya.

*Thorim

Image of Thorim

Thorim is one of the watchers boss encounters in Ulduar. The encounter has two phases, in the first, the raid has to split in a gauntlet and an arena team. The arena team must fight waves of adds while the gauntlet team makes its way through some trash and a few mini-bosses to Thorim. Upon reaching the boss, he and the gauntlet group join the arena team, starting the second phase which lasts until Thorim is subdued. Both, fire and nature resistance are useful. When attempting hard mode, a little frost resistance gear is recommended.

 *Hodir

Image of Hodir

Hodir is one of the boss encounters in Ulduar. Players are able to defeat him, but not kill him. His loot is distributed through a frozen chest in his chambers. Hodir was a titanic watcher and once resided in the Temple of Winter, lending his guidance to the frost giants in the Storm Peaks. The Sons of Hodir, a faction in the region, refer to Hodir as a father figure or creator. He disappeared after Loken’s betrayal of the other titanic Watchers. It is said that the temple guardians are verified to be deceased. A sulfurous odor suggests that death resulted from a fire-base entity and that the previously established cold weather patterns at the temple have ceased.

*General Vezax  Image of General Vezax

General Vezax is the twelfth boss encounter in Ulduar. He can be found in the Descent into Madness guarding the Prison of Yogg-Saron. Mana-based classes will have to deal with a lock on their regen, but will be able to restore it by destroying crystals that drop a residue on the floor. The Hard mode requires players not to break any of these crystals and not regen any mana.

*Yogg-Saron  Image of Yogg-Saron

Yogg-Saron is the final boss encounter of the Ulduar raid dungeon. It is mainly a DPS race, but also requires high situational awareness. Yogg-Saron with no keepers was the hardest boss to defeat in the game before Icecrown Citadel. The fight is lighter on healing than Mimiron, one healer per five raid members is enough. Extra DPS reduces raid damage taken. Entering Yogg-Saron’s room immediately starts the encounter. The fight has three phases, engaging Sara and her guardians first, then defeating the Brain of Yogg-Saron and finally its body. 15 minutes after the first raid member enters Sara’s room, Yogg-Saron casts Extinguish All Life, which one-shots the raid.

*Algalon the Observer  Image of Algalon the Observer

Algalon the Observer is a hard mode-only encounter in Ulduar, released in patch 3.1.Algalon was sent by the titans after Watcher Loken’s death activated a planetary fail-safe protection, indicating possible distress on Azeroth. Algalon’s task is to analyze any systemic corruption on the planet. If it’s deemed beyond saving, the Titans will “re-originate” the planet to cleanse it of corruption, killing all currently living organisms in the process. After his defeat in Ulduar, he chose to monitor the activities of the mortal races of Azeroth. His outlook on life and the Titans’ plans has been called into question, so he seeks to understand what makes Azeroth so different from the countless worlds he has observed before.

13. Trial of the Grand Crusader  Trial of the Crusader loading screen.jpg

Trial of the Grand Crusader (this is a use name, not the actual name of the raid zone) is the heroic mode version of Trial of the Crusader. These are the hardest raid encounters before Icecrown Citadel.

Bosses:

*Gormok the Impaler  Image of Gormok the Impaler

Gormok the Impaler is the first boss of the Crusaders’ Coliseum, released in in patch 3.2. Gormok hits hard, so there should be healers assigned to the tanks. Because of the constant damage to the off tank, Pallies work great: put Light’s Beacon on one tank and heal the other tank. If one of the tank healers gets a Snobold, another healer needs to take over. Snobolds interrupt spell casting and stun their victims. Also, when healers run in range so melee can kill the Snobold, Gormok’s stomp will also interrupt their casts.

*Acidmaw and Dreadscale

Image of Acidmaw and Dreadscale

The Two Jormungar, Acidmaw and Dreadscale, are a boss pair making up part of the Beasts of Northrend encounter in the Trial of the Crusader and Trial of the Grand Crusader raid. When Acidmaw and Dreadscale first appear, Dreadscale is mobile and can be moved around the room, however Acidmaw is rooted to the ground. Acidmaw can be tanked with a ranged class, but a melee class with high health is recommended. Acidmaw has an AOE paralytic toxin attack that can only be removed by a player that has Dreadscale’s debuff called Burning Bile. He must be tanked facing away from the rest of the raid, and the raid should be spread out at least 10 yards from each other. He also does Slime Pool which is similar to Grobbulus’s green clouds. Every once in awhile he will inject a player with paralytic toxin, a stacking debuff that will slow you down to zero movement if not cured.

*Icehowl  Image of Icehowl

Icehowl is part of the  Beasts of Northrend encounter in the Crusaders’ Coliseum in patch 3.2 Tank should make Icehowl face the wall, so that he doesn’t get knocked back by Whirl. Ranged classes and healers should spread out, so that they avoid being hit by Arctic Breath. Melee DPS should place themselves at maximum melee range or between Icehowl and the wall so that they avoid the knock back effect of Whirl. The Tank should keep his back against the wall, and is able to avoid most of the knockback by standing in the “Corner” formed by a wall pillar in the wall. Whirl will be almost immediately followed by arctic breath, so this positioning is key for melee classes to be effective in this fight.

*Lord Jaraxxus  Image of Lord Jaraxxus

Lord Jaraxxus is the second encounter of the Trial of the Crusader raid instance, released in Patch 3.2. Lord Jaraxxus is summoned by Grand Warlock Wilfred Fizzlebang when the gnome attempts to summon a doomguard for the next challenge. Jaraxxus kills Fizzlebang for his efforts, and next plans to kill the player.

*Faction Champions

The Faction Champions is the collective term used by Blizzard to represent the third encounter in the Trial of the Crusader raid dungeon. Players encounter members of the opposite faction in PvP Arena-styled combat.

*Twin Val’kyr

Image of Twin Val'kyr

The Twin Val’kyr,  Fjola Lightbane and  Eydis Darkbane, are a pair making up the fourth (and ostensibly final) encounter in the Trial of the Crusader raid. They both share the same health pool much like the Twin Emperors. Fjola and Eydis are two very powerful Val’kyr that were originally sent by the Lich King along with their Vengeful Val’kyr army to disrupt, destroy, and terrorize the Argent Tournament and its citizens. But during this attack Argent Confessor Paletress comes to the defense of the tournament and battles the twins. Paletress is victorious, and Fjola and Eydis are captured. Their bonds are maintained byPriestess Alorah and Priest Grimmin. They later appear as the “final” challenge of the coliseum after the raid has defeated the Faction Champions.

*Anub’arak  Image of Anub'arak

Anub’arak is the fifth and final boss of the Trial of the Crusader, an instance in the Crusaders’ Coliseum. Anub’arak has returned from his freedom of undeath by the Lich Kings power of reanimation. He is now bigger, stronger, deadlier and faster along with being imbuded with frost power to slay the champions that defeat the invading Twin Val’kyr sisters. He has an enrage timer of 10 minutes.

14. Onyxia’s Lair

Onyxia's Lair loading screen.jpg

Onyxia’s Lair is a level 80 raid dungeon located in the Wyrmbog, Dustwallow Marsh. It is home to Onyxia, the brood mother of the black dragonflight. Onyxia’s Lair was originally a level 60, 40-player raid dungeon, only one of two that were available upon release of World of Warcraft (the other being Molten Core). It was re-tuned as a level 80 raid dungeon in patch 3.2.2 in honor of World of Warcraft’s 5-year anniversary. To this end, she has begun manipulating many mortals and dragons alike to her own ends and wields considerable political power over many groups.Onyxia speaks Common, Darnassian, Draconic, Dwarven, Orcish, Thalassian, and Zandali.

15. Ruby Sanctum

The Ruby Sanctum is the red dragonflight’s sanctum within the Chamber of Aspects beneath Wyrmrest Temple in Dragonblight. It is a raid dungeon with both 10 and 25-player normal and heroic modes. The dungeon’s release was delayed until patch 3.3.5a was released in Europe, a week after the US release, in an effort to make sure all players world-wide could access it at the same time. Even so, a large number of both US and EU realms were down for a 24-hour maintenance when the raid was opened.

Bosses:

*Saviana Ragefire

Image of Saviana Ragefire

Saviana Ragefire is a member of the Black dragonflight and a mini boss. 16. Icecrown Citadel

Icecrowncitadel.jpg

Icecrown Citadel is the greatest fortress of the Scourge and the last bastion of the dread Lich King. Located in the frozen wastes of Icecrown on the continent of Northrend, the Citadel is built around the Frozen Throne that once held the spirit of Ner’zhul until he joined with Arthas Menethil to become the new Lich King. Constructed from saronite, the Citadel is inhabited by some of the strongest and vilest of the Lich King’s minions – a great army of the living dead standing between their dark master and those who seek to destroy him.

Bosses:

*Lord Marrowgar

Image of Lord Marrowgar

Lord Marrowgar is the first boss of the Icecrown Citadel raid. Pieced together by the Lich King from the bones of a thousand vanquished adventurers, he is the guardian of the Frozen Throne within The Spire, and wields the power of the throne itself. This boss tests if the raid is able to survive the Icecrown Citadel raid. If the boss wipes the raid, then the raid will not properly survive the other Citadel bosses. His trademark attacks are Bone Storm and Bone Spike Graveyard. He has an enrage timer (10 min), which is a lot of time, so it is not exactly a DPS race as much as a Battle for survival.

*Lady Deathwhisper

Image of Lady Deathwhisper

The lich Lady Deathwhisper is the Supreme Overseer of the Cult of the Damned and the second boss of the Icecrown Citadel raid. The fight is mostly a DPS race (with a high damage output it becomes significanty easier), but also requires high awareness from all raid members. The 25-player Heroic version of this boss is one of the most difficult encounters in the instance.

*Gunship Battle

Gunship Battle

The Gunship Battle is an aerial battle between the gunships Skybreaker and Orgrim’s Hammer around the spire of Icecrown Citadel. The encounter has some fun elements, and most guilds and PuGs manage it easily, therefore it is often referred to as the “Lootship Battle”.

*Deathbringer Saurfang  Image of Deathbringer Saurfang

Deathbringer Saurfang is the fourth boss in the Icecrown Citadel raid. He is described as being the Lich King’s most powerful death knight.[1] It’s mainly a DPS race with an interesting twist (Blood Power). After falling to Frostmourne at the Battle of Angrathar the Wrathgate, Dranosh Saurfang was raised in undeath by the Lich King and brought to Icecrown Citadel. Imbued with the power of the Scourge, the Deathbringer bars the way of any attackers trying to enter the Upper Spire.

The encounter is rather unforgiving; most players must react properly in various situations, and all players get ample opportunity to commit mistakes which then wipe the raid. This encounter is a fitting end to Wrath of the Lich King and on par with Yogg-Saron in Ulduar.

The basic tutorial will never be sufficient to compete within the growing industry of Cataclysm Leveling guides. It needs to come with a good deal of brand new attributes and changes.
